Wheat

Cereal grains provide basic resources for feeding the world. Nelson Irrigation equipment provides farmers the reliability to grow that grain.

Wheat is a grass cultivated for its cereal grain seed. It is one of the first cultivated grains and a staple food that provides approximately 20% of the protein for more than half of the world’s population. Grown worldwide, wheat is raised on more land area than any other food crop. Wheat yields will benefit from irrigation—particularly around the boot growth stage.

The various cereal types require a wide range of water management tools, but they all will see improved production when irrigated properly. Nelson Irrigation Corporation provides those tools to help improve your production.

Since the evolution of irrigation and the first flood systems, automated irrigation has been the tool to save water, save energy, and save labor. Today, cereal crops are irrigated in many ways. The wheel line, towline, and solid set markets benefit from Nelson’s Rotator® Technology because of improved uniformity, longevity, and ease of repair, along with reduced operating cost. Mechanized irrigation systems like the center pivot provide a platform for maximized production when used in conjunction with the appropriate 3030 Rotator Series Sprinkler. When used with a traveling system or solid set, the Big Gun® provides a unique solution for irrigating oddly shaped fields.

Irrigating wheat is a complicated task that depends on everything from your region to your choice of valve. Explore some of the Nelson products commonly used for wheat below, or get in touch with the territory manager in your area so we can help find the right solution for you.
